Warning: The Following is an Exercise in Sarcasm in Order to Illustrate a Point

You know what I don't like? These people who say they have "open" marriages. You know, married couples who agree to pursue relationships outside of their marriage while still remaining a committed couple? Personally, I think this kind of relationship is deplorable and not what god intended married people to do. Marriage is a union betweeen a man and a woman, "for better or worse, in sickness and in health until death do us part." It is not a union between a man and a woman and that hot girl who works at the TGI Fridays and Steve from accounting. It doesn't matter if the infidelity is consensual- it is an affront to the entire institution of marriage! Don't get me wrong, I don't hate these people. I just hate their actions. We simply must do something to curb this sort of deviant behavior. I mean, think of the children! I will not stand for these people threatening the sanctity of marriage and will speak out in order to educate the American public of this growing problem so we can properly defend ourselves. I think an immediate constutional ammendment is in order. If any married couple engages in such behavior, their marriage should be promptly nullified by the state. They are consciously and deliberately breaking a vow made in front of God and their unions should no longer be recognized.

Ok, I don't really believe this. Sometimes arguments I hear just sound so comical that I can't help myself. Here's the problem though: I don't think people are ever going to reach a consensus on issues like gay marriage. Neither side is going to bend. So what are we to do? I honestly don't know. People on my side will keep fighting for what they believe is right, just as people on the other side will do the same for what they believe. Sometimes they will pull ahead and sometimes we will take the lead. But we will never be finished. Sometmes I wish that everyone who has never known a gay person could spend some time as a dance major in Chicago. Not only would it be an educational experience, but it would be really funny as well.

Just as a side note, did you know that some of the states that passed laws banning gay marriage also made it illegal for two gay people to own property together?

  1. No shit? I didn't know about the property laws. That's fucking insane. Although I do think it will be difficult, if not impossible, to enforce. If I were a gay person applying for a mortgage loan with my partner, I would simply lie and say she was my friend. How are they going to make you prove you're *not* gay - have hetero sex on the floor of the bank with a notary public ready to witness? Set up cameras in gay men's homes, looking for tell-tale signs such as finely sculptured bathroom soaps, bronze monkey sculptures, and Judy Garland records? What a joke (I guess the scary thing here is that it's not).
Add to the "Everyone Should Have to Experience This Job for at Least a Year of Their Life" list: SERVICE INDUSTRY. There is nothing more humbling than being forced to stand smiling apologetically (for a whopping $2.33/hour!) while some buffoon with a bad hairpiece starts screaming about the horses of the Apocalypse simply because he wanted five ice cubes in his single-malt, not six.

  2. Did you even go to college? From reading your Sarcasm. I'm very happy that you're not in public office. No one cares to see dudes kissing and girls doing the same and try justify that to ones children looking own. So I assume you have a loose marraige and gay experiences as well. Sometimes if you want ppl. think your smart. Take the advice to keep your mouth shut and your fingers off the keyboard.......

  3. Actually, I've been happily married for nearly 8 years now and have never even thought about being with anyone other than my wonderful husband. I also have a college degree (hence my use of complete sentences.) I just don't happen to judge other people's relationships. You'd be surprised at how many people in committed, heterosexual relationships like me can be open and accepting of other people's life choices. Hatred isn't very becoming. Thanks for writing! It is much appreciated, trust me. (Though the advice is noted, I'll keep happily tap-tapping away on my keyboard.)

  4. Another side note: I do not have an "open marriage". I'd maybe go as far to say that I do not approve of people who claim to have open marriages (not because I'm morally outraged, but rather I think why bother to get married in the first place?). However, I would never support any legislation that restricts people's personal relationships. Me and the Constitution? We go way back. :-)

  5. A college degree in what? What college is this degree from? Please don't save some milk carton community college. You can't have both morality and then on other hand say " do whatever you like". There as be standards. Have you even read the constitution? I beg to differ. I could converse with you over and over on these issues. I'm happy you think Tracy rules are good here while your breathing. But tracy rules are worthless and senseless when come judgement day. Oh I forgot who I was discussing these matters with. I apologize!

  6. I'm sorry you are so upset. We both clearly have strong opinions on these issues. I could go back and forth with you all day too but I really don't think either of our minds would end up changed. The point of my original post above what that if we're going to make laws preventing certain types of people marrying-in the name of defending marriage- we should also make laws against people who cheat or couples who willingly break the sacred vows they took. But that will never happen. Imagine that! The courts would be tied up forever! Anyway, I got into a similar discussion with another person this week (you two sound quite similar- are related or something? Really.) and we basically just had to agree to disagree. I don't expect every person to understand my point of view and I am always working on trying to be open and respectful of other people's views as well. All I can do is to live my life the best way I know how and to be happy. I use this space to vent my frustrations about the world as well as to be joyful about all the wonderful things I have in my life. I don't pretend to be the smartest person around. I went to an arts college in Chicago and studied dance (I plan to teach dance to kids) which is no means anywhere near a Harvard education. I do try to educate myself about the world every day and shape my views from this. Whatever "rules" I post on my site, I do so jokingly. I enjoy sarcasm. It's just how I am. I don't expect everybody to share my beliefs. I'm just a person like anyone else and certainly don't want to fight with anyone. I will however, continue to post my opinions on my personal site as I please. Feel free to pass me by next time if I say something that upsets you. I don't always post about politics! Of course, boring stories about my life and pictures of my girls aren't that interesting to anyone outside of my little circle either!
Please enjoy your holiday weekend. Relax. Eat some pie. I know I will! Happy Thanksgiving.
P.S. Love the email addresses! That's pretty good.
