Because We Can, That's Why

I wasn't going to say anything about the Terry Schiavo drama playing its way out in the courts and press, but now Congress has intervened with a bill to overrule the courts with a last minute bill passed this morning at 12:20AM about which House Leader Bill Frist actually said:

"This is a unique bill passed under unique circumstances that SHOULD NOT SERVE AS PRECEDENT FOR FUTRURE LEGISLATION".

I would say something about this but I'm still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor. Regardless of what side anyone takes on this matter, what kind of law are they making that can't be used as legal precedent in the future? Did Congress suddenly become a six-year-old who constantly keeps making new rules in the middle of the game and then denies them to their opponent when they start to play along?

  1. I've been trying to avoid talking about this case too because it's already gotten so much publicity. The thing that kills me is, no matter where you stand on the issue, taking Terry Schiavo's feeding tube out, then putting it back in, then taking it out again, then putting it back in...well, that seems more cruel than anything to me and I'm extremely frustrated that none of her family members realize this.
    Argh.
I can't watch the news anymore.
