Changing the World Three Dollars at a Time

Jason sent me this link to an article about compact fluorescent light bulbs and because I like energy efficiency about a thousand times more than I like Katherine Harris, I thought I'd use this article to bump her off the top of my blog.

I am a Target shopper through and through but I can appreciate Wal-Mart's efforts in the name of conservation. Now if only they would clean up their cluttered shopping aisles...

  1. Yay! There's only one way I would've been more excited about the article: if it'd been written by my friend Chuck!

  2. Also, the most BS piece of corporate-ese I've heard in a while: "relevant rollbacks."

  3. Yes, but can't you just see that cutesy yellow "rollback" smiley face bouncing off all the light bulbs?

  4. Dammit. Now I wanna go buy 'em AT WalMart, if only for the cutesy display of exactly how many pennies will go into our piggy bank.
The only reason I stayed away from CFLs was because I was under the impression that my house would be lit up like the cosmetics department at Boston Store. Ew.
    I stand corrected.

  6. I too worried about the sickly cast most fluorescent lights give off. Fortunately, the CFLs don't seem to do that. (Don't tell Ethan, though, because then he will have won!)

  7. Guess I'll be the skunk at the picnic. Don't want to comment on Wal-Mart, et al. Just want to stand up for compact fluorescent light bulbs. Trust me. Those things are worth the money. They literally last for years. We have one in the fixture above our kitchen sink. That light is on just about 12 hours per day and used to burn out at about 3 month intervals. We've had the same compact fluorescent bulb in that fixture now for about 3 years. The bulbs don't appear to have the same quality of light as the fluorescent tubes and so the light doesn't seem to be that much different from regular incandescent bulbs. We're replacing all the bulbs in the house with the compact fluorescents, including those in our table lamps. Definitely worth the money - especially if you pick up a multi-pack at Costco or Sam's Club. :)

  8. Maybe my snarkiness was misunderstood? We have cfls throughout our whole house and we love love love them. They are most definitely not department store greenish either. I actually was wanting to spread the good word with the article in spite of the fact that I think that shopping at Wal-Mart makes me feel like I'm in one of the nine circles of hell. :-)

  9. Please excuse the misunderstanding on my part, Tracey.
