August 2006 Archives

Jason sent me this link to an article about compact fluorescent light bulbs and because I like energy efficiency about a thousand times more than I like Katherine Harris, I thought I'd use this article to bump her off the top of my blog.

I am a Target shopper through and through but I can appreciate Wal-Mart's efforts in the name of conservation. Now if only they would clean up their cluttered shopping aisles...

Rep. Harris: Church-state separation 'a lie'

You know me, I just love to legislate sin. I do it all the time! Can't get enough of it.

Ok, guys. I have to send back the RSVP card for my ten year high school reunion next week. It's an all-weekend party bonanza! Should I go? And if I do go, should I attend all three events? Should I tell them to bite me? Jason won't go anywhere near it. Who's with me? Shiow? Mappy B? Help me out here.

It's That Time of Year Again

Juliana's birthday is next Saturday and I haven't even started making her birthday video** yet. Those of you who wondered how long it would take me before the birthday video tradition became in danger of falling by the wayside- I'd say the answer is about six years. I'm still going to make one this year (even though we're not having an official family party but rather a girly gathering at a place called Wee Imagine) but it is definitely becoming a time problem, even though I've been thinking about starting on it for weeks now. Making the videos became harder once I had two children to create for of course, but I love the finished product so much that I'm not ready to retire them just yet. It's bad enough that I hardly have time to blog anymore, I can't imagine dropping the music video project just yet. Plus even if Juliana becomes too old for me to make sappy music videos about her I still have to make them for Ava for at least as long as I do for Juli so it's equal treatment, right?

Don't you hate it when real life gets in the way of your attempts to document it?

**If and when I do finish this year's video, I'm thinking of posting it on the girls' website. Maybe I'll even post all of the ones I've made over the years, though possibly with a password required. It's high time I figured out this whole video on the interweb thing.

Dad helped me put a fresh coat of paint on the front porch last weekend. Maybe he's just really bored with retirement? We're keeping him occupied.

(It's still light green, just a shade paler.)

Yep, those are the reading chairs. Awe. Some.

Not much happening around here. Ergo not too many posts as you can see. With two kids at home this summer I've been feeling a bit like a maid and that my friends, takes up huge amounts of time. (See: human vacuum cleaner.) Today though, I received notice in the mail that says school starts up again on September 5th! Can I have a Woo!? And possibly a Hooooo! I love Juliana, really I do. But the girl needs constant mental stimulation that I simply cannot provide and the solution does not lie in having her spend more hours with the Nintendo. Along with school starting, soon will come soccer! And ballet! And quite possibly Girl Scouts! I will no doubt trade in my maid's apron for a chauffeur's cap. And the world will be as it should.

Surreal Life

I can't believe I'm sitting here watching modern dance on prime time television. On FOX of all networks to boot.

Yes, I have been sucked in by So You Think You Can Dance?. Granted it has it's share of garbage on the show (and what's with calling all the dance pieces "routines"?) but anything that gets people interested in watching dance is good in my book.

Ugh.

About

Mom, former dancer, current runner, and forever geek lover living in Milwaukee. I love all things related to Buffy, Jon Stewart, and the land of snark. I am very liberal. Somebody once wrote to tell me they laughed at every "thick-headed imperviousness thought" that passed through my head. This made me want to wrap my arms around the internet and give it a big, wet, kiss.
